Distant Drumming with Dr. Davis (Online) Dr. Davis will present percussion activities based in the Orff method combined with current pop music. She will lead students in active music-making using handheld percussion instruments and household items, to create one or more pop percussion ensemble performances. Students will play body percussion, rhythmic grooves, melodic and harmonic patterns and rock out!
Introduction to Free Improvisation – Listen, Create, Explore! with Dr. Smith (In-Person) In this session, music makers are encouraged to create magic on a blank sonic canvas. Listen to the room and to one another, and play, sing or dance whatever sounds and movements come into your head. Percussion instruments are provided. Free improvisation is truly freeing!
Getting the Songwriting Ball Rolling with Mr. Hale (Online) In this session, participants will practice several different techniques to help them get the creative songwriting process started. With more tricks in their tool belts, participants will leave with inspiration and ideas to help them write songs in any style they’d like. Bring something to write with, because this will be an active songwriting session!
Expressive Sound: Music from the Inside Out with Mr. Carbone (Online) In this ZOOM workshop, children and youth of all ages will celebrate the joys of Sounding, Singing and Music-Making from the Inside Out. With practices including Vocal Toning, Intuitive Singing, and Body-Percussion, we will explore and build skills that can be used for a lifetime, as we practice Tuning Up our whole selves. Students with interests in singing, music and performing are encouraged to participate, but no prior background or experience is necessary.
Make YOUR Music, Anywhere with Digital and Found Resources with Dr. Rathgeber (Online) Come explore different websites and at-home ways to play around with sound and make your very own music. We'll play around with digital resources such as Plink, GroovePizza, BandLab, and Chrome Music Lab to make music together and start new musical projects you can take with you. We'll also share ideas on how to use things around home to make new and unique songs, soundtracks, and musical memes. Come play around and learn things you can take with you so you can make YOUR music, anywhere.
Introduction to Steel Drums with Mr. Schmetterer (In-Person) Want to learn how to play steel drums? Everyone is welcome to come and learn how to play! Students will get hands-on experience learning to play steel drums, and will be able to play a short song by the end of the workshop.
